The Newport Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB) consists of representatives from Newport City Council (Children and Family Services, Adult Services, Housing, Education, Continuing Learning and Leisure), Aneurin Bevan Health Board, Heddlu Gwent Police, Probation, NSPCC, CAFCASS Cymru, Youth Offending Service, UK Border Agency and voluntary and community groups.
All agencies have a duty to comply with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures 2008 and the Safeguarding Children: Working Together Under the Children Act 2004 guidance.
Members need to be able to:
1. Represent their agency/organisation with authority
2. Commit their agency/organisation to policy and practice matters
3. Hold their agency/organisation to account.
Members have a responsibility to support and communicate the work of the NSCB within their own agency/organisation. Additionally, many members have specific responsibilities or expertise to contribute to the effective functioning of the Board.
The NSCB meets on a bi-monthly basis with a maximum of two further development days for all members to attend. It is a requirement that all NSCB members attend 75% of these meetings, to maintain consistency and effective functioning of the Board.
